Christopher Barrington-Leigh at McGill

	I am an Assistant Professor at McGill University, joint between its Institute for Health and Social Policy and the McGill School of Environment, and am an Associate Member in McGill's Department of Economics.
	In 2011 I held a postdoctoral appointment at the Institute for Resources, Environment, and Sustainability at UBC.
	From 2009-2011 I held a postdoctoral appointment at UBC as a Global Scholar of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR) in the Social Interactions, Identity and Well-Being program. My appointment was with John Helliwell in the Economics Department at UBC.
	I completed my PhD in the Economics department at UBC in 2009. On my committee were Thomas Lemieux, Nicole Fortin, and John Helliwell.

I completed my PhD in the UBC Economics department in January 2009, with the help of professors Lemieux, Fortin, and Helliwell as my committee. I ran an interdisciplinary Subjective Well-being study group at UBC. We met monthly on campus. Members represented faculty and students in Economics, Psychology, Education, and the Institute for Resources, Environment, and Sustainability.

UBC Econ 210: I designed and, in Spring 2009 taught, The Economics of Climate Change Policy as Econ 210 (Microeconomic policy: global warming) at UBC.

UBC Econ 221: I was head TA for Markus von Wartburg's Econ 221 (Game Theory) in autumn 2007, and TA for Mukesh Eswaran's Econ 221 in spring 2008.
Before I started at UBC, I took one undergrad course in microeconomics. Here is a complete set of my rebellious homework assignments [also in PDF], and my early/naïve reaction to typical American economics textbooks, in this case Browning and Zupan's.
I've also taught a number of courses in physics at MIT and Stanford.

I am a user of Stata for unix and of the emacs environment for it, ESS.
I do much of my Stata programming in Python. I have a package in Python to create entire LaTeX tables of regression output through Stata: with one call you specify a series of regression equations (typically as Stata code), nice substitutions of variable names to readable TeX, checkmarks or etc to indicate included dummies or sets of variables, optional colour to indicate significance, etc. It calls Stata, parses the output, and formats it prettily. Ask me.
I have started a concordance table for ethnicities for GSS17, EDS, and ESC2 (wave 2 of the ESC) in Canada. I also have lots of code for recoding variables from these surveys into comparable form.

Martin Osborne at U of Toronto has some good pages on LaTeX and BibTex for economists.

Along with Professor Mike Peters, I maintained for ~6 years the UBC Economics PhD student accounts, some other services, and the Linux server on which they reside. But don't ask me questions until you have read carefully the FAQ page.
